Dave grew up slightly nomadic in the
Midwest. Most childhood memories involve exploring the streams,
prairies, and forests of Iowa and Michigan. After graduating
with a B.S. in Biology from Calvin College, he enthusiastically
followed his now wife to her hometown in Whatcom County. After
working on stream restoration projects throughout the Nooksack
River watershed for 2 years, he ended up dragging his wife back
to Michigan to attend the University of Michigan's School of
Natural Resources. With a newly minted M.S. they decided to
again pack everything up and move across the country to Bellingham
in May of 2005. They don't plan on leaving there for a while.
Dave spends his days planning riparian planting projects, talking
with landowners, keeping the hard-working corrections crew busy,
planting trees, and battling invasive plant species. Additionally,
he is honing a monitoring program for completed planting projects,
and putting together some methodology research plans for future
projects.
He is married to Holly and they are busy keeping up with James,
their rapidly growing young son. Dave enjoys exploring the forests
and mountains of Washington.
