Pat originated in Edmonton, Alberta, leaving
at an early age (6) to arrive and grow up in the charming city
of Spokane. After high school it was off to Germany to save
the U.S. from a Russian invasion. A realization occurred after
three years of driving tanks that school might be a better option.
In 1975 college began at Eastern Washington University near
Spokane. In 1977 it was off to Bellingham to complete an Environmental
degree from Huxley College and a masters degree from Western.
After
school it was time to find a job. The Washington Dept. of Fisheries
was looking for people to walk up streams with big chainsaws
and remove woody debris. This was my first exposure to salmon
and streams. Little did I know at the time I would spend the
rest of my career putting wood back in streams.
I
started with the Stillaguamish Tribe in 1988 and continue to
manage the environmental program. I think the most important
things we do in the salmon world all relate to working relationships
with locals and solving problems at home. We don't always agree
and occassionally swear at or sue each other, but can still
respect each others point of view in the end.
I raised two great kids; Shayne a lawyer in Seattle (age 30)
and Sarah a counselor in Seattle (age 24). I still live in Bellingham
with my wife Seneca, six-year old daughter Sage and Mojo the
chocolate lab. I enjoy the outdoors, photography, gardening
and consuming fine foods and spirits.
